LONDON: Bursting with historical and cultural riches, architectural landmarks, and a dazzling array of world-class museums and galleries, this is a city that instantly captures the imagination. Iconic heritage sites such as the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben are complemented by bold contemporary architecture; a vibrant cultural diversity coexists with British traditions; and an innovative contemporary art scene serves as counterpoint to a remarkable trove of literary and artistic masterpieces. This evocative mix of old and new makes London an inspiring destination for a painting retreat.
Itinerary: Excursions include the Tate Modern for the impressive permanent collection as well as an upcoming major retrospective of Alberto Giacometti, which includes some never-before-seen drawings alongside more familiar bronze sculptures and oil paintings. We will visit the outstanding impressionist collection of the Courtauld Gallery, tour the British Museum filled with important historic artifacts such as the Rosetta Stone, and explore local art galleries. Finally we will set our sights on master paintings by Goya, Ingres, Degas, Constable and Turner at the National Gallery.
Sketching opportunities can be found as we visit museums and local landmarks. Painting sessions are held in the studio/gallery space at Green Rooms.

Accommodations: Green Rooms, which opened in spring 2016 as "London's newest hotel for the arts," was "designed principally for artists, actors, and the creative community who are visting or working in London." Located on the north-east side of London in Green Wood, Green Rooms is a short 12-minute ride from King’s Cross and 20 minutes to Central London. The 1930s building was recently restored by London-based architects SODA with eclectic interiors featuring mid-century and contemporary furnishings by London designers. Painting sessions will be held in the top-floor gallery/event space with Art Deco vaulted ceiling and stained-glass skylight. The hotel restaurant/bar receives high marks for it's innovative "pop-up" residencies featuring emerging London restauranteurs. Green Rooms also draws a local crowd as a venue for art, performance, and musical events.
Cost: $3,290 includes tuition, room & board, entrance fees to sites & museums, and local transportation (cost is based on double occupancy and does not include airfare).
