Visit the Venice Biennale

Itinerary: A truly inspiring setting for a painting retreat, Venice is world renown for its rich cultural history, extraordinary architecture and abundant art treasures. Called the "City of Water" and the "City of Bridges," Venice’s unrivaled setting and magical atmosphere offers a visual feast for artists.
Morning excursions include visits to the 54th Venice Biennale, the definitive international exhibition for contemporary art; the Peggy Guggenheim Collection; the Island of Murano and its famous glassmakers; the historic Palazzo Ducale in the Piazza San Marco; and sketching at Santa Maria della Salute and environs. Painting sessions are held each afternoon at the Don Orione Artigianelli complex in the Sestiere di Dorsoduro.
Dates: Sunday August 21, 2011 to Tuesday August 30, 2011 (10 days/9 nights)
Accomodations: Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli - a restored ancient monastery located in the heart of Venice in the Sestiere di Dorsoduro on the Guidecca Canal.
Cost: $2850 - includes tuition, room & board, entrance fees to sites & museums, and transportation on vaporetto water taxis (cost is based on double occupancy and does not include airfare.)

The Biennale is a major international contemporary art exhibition held every two years in Venice, Italy. First offered in 1895, the Biennale is based in the Giardini, a verdant public park houses 30 permanent national pavilions, and has expanded over the years to encompass the nearby historic Arsenale and additional exhibition spaces thoughout Venice.

Piazza San Marco
Piazza San Marco, the principal public square of Venice, is ringed with palaces, arcades and cafes and presided over by the spectacular Basilica di San Marco.

Peggy Guggenheim Collection
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is among the most important museums in Italy for European and American art of the first half of the 20th century. It is located in Peggy Guggenheim's former home, Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on the Grand Canal in Venice.

Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli

Located in the sunny southern Sestiere di Dorsoduro of Venice, Don Orione Artigianelli is a historic monastery first built in 1392 by the Gesuati order and recently restored as a cultural center providing event, conference and guesthouse facilities.
Vaporetto

Venice's vaporetti (singular - vaporetto) or water buses, are the public transportation of Venice. Vaporetti take visitors along the main canals, to the islands and around the lagoon.
Murano

Murano, the home of master glassblowers since the 13th century, offers a glass museum and several glass factories where you can observe these artisans at work.
